This is one of the most asked questions I see when I host my wedding fairs or when I chat to couples during their consultation discussions. So I thought why not talk about it a bit more on this blog! 😁
Feeling overwhelmed by the idea of planning a wedding? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. With so many details to consider, it can be easy to feel lost. But fear not, we’re here to guide you through the initial steps of planning your special day.
1. Set a Budget 💰
Before diving into the world of wedding planning, it’s crucial to set a realistic budget. Consider your financial situation, the number of guests, and the desired level of luxury (or non-luxury 😊).
Remember: A budget can help you prioritise and make informed decisions.
2. Choose Your Wedding Venue
Your choice of venue will significantly impact your overall wedding style and budget. Here are some popular options:
Church Wedding:
Pros: Traditional, often beautiful, and can be emotionally significant.
Cons: May have restrictions on decorations, music, and timing. Some churches like the Roman Catholic church, you may be asked for extra requirements such as letters from previous parishes you've lived in and attending their Marriage Care counselling course.
Registry Office:
Pros: Simple, affordable, and legally binding.
Cons: Can be less personal and may have limited options for ceremony personalisation.
Wedding Venue:
Pros: Versatile, customizable, and often all-inclusive packages. You are more likely to choose and book your own wedding vendors
Cons: Can be more expensive, especially for larger weddings.
3. Create a Guest List
Your guest list will determine the size of your wedding and, consequently, your budget. Be realistic about the number of people you can comfortably accommodate.
Remember: A smaller guest list can often lead to a more intimate and enjoyable celebration.
4. Choose Your Wedding Party
Select your closest friends and family to be part of your wedding party. This includes bridesmaids, groomsmen, best man, and maid of honor.
Remember: A smaller wedding party can simplify the planning process.
5. Hire a Wedding Planner (Optional)
A wedding planner can take the stress out of planning your big day. They can help with everything from venue selection to vendor coordination.
Remember: A wedding planner can be a valuable investment, especially for those with busy schedules or who want a stress-free planning experience.
And lastly:
Attend a local wedding fair , specifically the Creative Wedding Fair, held at Fairfield Social Club in Manchester on Sunday 26th January 2025! Independent and creative wedding vendors will be on hand to chat and discuss with you face to face about your wedding planning needs.
Tickets are on sale here! ⬅️🎟
By following these initial steps, you’ll be well on your way to planning a memorable wedding. Remember to prioritise what’s important to you and your partner, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
